Ron Colón started as a passion project between two drinks industry colleagues and Friends Thurman Wise and Pepijn Janssens. The story begins with a desire to create a high proof dark aged rum but quickly evolved into a project that was about innovation, bridging worlds, spirits categories, flavours and most importantly doing things that no one in the industry had done before.
But where did the name come from? Rum has been used as a currency from around 1790. Like many other good such as tobacco, rum was used as currency by many merchants. Hence the idea to pay homage to the old ‘Colones’ currency of El Salvador.
